Deuteronomy 18:15-19 (NIV)
15 The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.”
17 The Lord said to me: “What they say is good. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. 19 I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name.
Reflecting on these verses, I see a wonderful example of how God will always prepare us for whatever he has in store. Whatever God’s plan is for us, he will equip us and put the right people around us to be successful. Of course, that is only if we are in his will!! I guess I left that part out, sorry!
As in these verses, Moses is preparing the nation of Israel to enter the Promised Land. After 400 years of wandering, they were going to have a prophet sent to them to help them navigate this new land. And as long as they listen and obey the words of the prophet, they would be fruitful and conquer the land.
As we are in this Christmas season, I am so grateful that God has sent his Son to help us navigate this thing called life. John 15:4A says, “Remain in me and I will remain in you…” Unfortunately, I don’t always do that. Then I have some difficulties just like the nation of Israel finds out. So, the challenge is to remain in him. The Christmas season encourages us to celebrate the awesome God who will always prepare us. He has given us the Holy Spirit so we have all we need to navigate whatever comes our way.
My prayer is that we all abide in him so that we will be blessed and fruitful in this coming year.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
