Why We Need The Holy Spirit

Power from on high.

As the world continues to change around us, we need the transformative power of the Holy Spirit in order to live out the life God has for us. In a culture that often pulls us in various directions, the Holy Spirit stands as the vital breath that empowers us to live out the life God has uniquely designed for each of us. In this series, we explore how the Holy Spirit guides, empowers, and sustains us on our journey of faith.

05/21/23 | Why We Need The Holy Spirit: Part 1

05/21/23 | As the world continues to change around us, we need the power of the Holy Spirit in order to live out the life God has for us. Pastor Jeff talks about how today, we live in what can be compared to “Digital Babylon,” in a culture that is constantly trying to get believers to compromise. Yet Jesus empowers us through His Spirit to live a different, effective, powerful life to please God.

Why do we need the Holy Spirit? Scripture teaches us:

1) To Enable us to Think God’s Thoughts (1 Corinthians 2:14)

2) To Enable us to Share in God’s Emotions (Isaiah 42:1)

3) To Enable us to Pray God’s Prayers (Romans 8:26)

4) To Enable us to Do God’s Work (Zechariah 4:6)

05/28/23 | Why We Need The Holy Spirit: Part 2

05/21/23 | If you could be any superhero for one day, who would you choose? Spiderman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Superman, Iron Man…there’s so many we could pick. Yet God has given us something far greater than a fictional superpower - The Holy Spirit.

Pastor Jeff speaks of “Digital Babylon;” just as Daniel and his friends were tempted to compromise as they entered the nation of Babylon, our culture today tries to get us to a spiritual apathy and compromise. Yet we celebrate on Pentecost Sunday how God has poured out His Spirit on believers, and enables us to overcome temptation! Pastor Jeff offers some more biblical teaching on this reality:

1) Having the Holy Spirit resident in our lives does not guarantee victory over temptation (1 Peter 1:15-16)

2) The Holy Spirit enables believers to overcome temptation by producing His holy character in us (Psalm 119:9, 11)

3) The Holy Spirit enables believers to overcome temptation as we daily choose to “Live by the Spirit” (Galatians 5:16, 25)

At the end of the message, Pastor Jeff’s “prescription” on how to do this: Commune with God, feed your spiritual being, and starve your sinful nature.
