Day 15: Breakfast
Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.”
John 21:12 (NASB 95)
Imagine Jesus saying these words to you. What do you think to yourself?
These are the words Jesus offered Peter, after Peter had denied Jesus three times. After Jesus’ resurrection, He appeared to His disciples, and restored them back. Read John 21 as part of your devotion today.
It’s interesting to note when Jesus says this. After His mission is complete, after He’s made it possible for all humankind to be redeemed from sin…He now invites His disciples simply to have breakfast. He invites them back into a restored relationship.
What did they talk about? How long was it for? Why doesn’t John give us any details? Because they simply had breakfast, and connected together as friends.
Jesus is inviting you to do the same.
The purpose of Jesus’ death & resurrection is so that we would have new life with God. The purpose of prayer, then, is to experience and live within that relationship.
Today, spend some time “having breakfast with Jesus.” Prayer isn’t about keeping God happy or complaining about all that’s in our life. Jesus wants to share a meal with you. He wants to spend time with you. He wants commune with you.
Talk to Him today like you would a friend. Imagine He’s right there with you, inviting you with these words:
“Come and have breakfast.”
