Day 2: Adoration

Sometimes “Adoration” can be difficult if we find ourselves at a loss for words, or repeating Christian words that we don’t know how to unpack or explain in different terms. Adoration simply means to praise God; to adore Him for who He is.

Today, we’re going to spend more of our prayer time focusing simply on this aspect of prayer. In any healthy relationship, you are eager to express why you love that person. Perhaps they are beautiful, thoughtful, loyal, trustworthy, or lots of fun to be around.

“Worship is focusing my mind’s attention and my heart’s affection on who God is and what God has done.” –Unknown

This is where praying the Psalms come in. Through the Psalms, David is functioning as a spiritual “prayer coach” for us on how to worship God. Here is one that beautifully describes some of God’s attributes that we can worship Him for:

Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,
your justice like the ocean depths.
You care for people and animals alike, O Lord.
How precious is your unfailing love, O God!
All humanity finds shelter
in the shadow of your wings.
You feed them from the abundance of your own house,
letting them drink from your river of delights.
For you are the fountain of life,
the light by which we see.
Psalm 36:5-9 (NLT)

Pray this Psalm out loud today. Pray through these verses several times. Take your time as you pray each one, and visualize it in your mind. Pray it again in another bible translation.

What does this mean to you? How can you pray these attributes using your own words?

Let’s spend time telling God what we love about Him.
