Day 3: Confession
If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.
1 John 1:8-10 (NLT)
Jesus paid the price for our sins on the cross, not so that we would hide them from God, but so that we could be cleansed from them. This process is known as “sanctification,” and is something God continually does in us. One way to understand God’s sanctifying work is this:
We’ve BEEN saved from the PENALTY of sin.
We’re BEING saved from the POWER of sin.
We WILL BE saved from the PRESENCE of sin.
Until we are in heaven with Jesus, we will continue to face sin in our lives. For this reason, confession is an essential part of our prayer time with God. We may find this difficult, but it reveals our constant need for Him. This takes humility.
What do you need to confess to God today? Is it a sin? A habit?
Perhaps simply admitting your need for God in your roles and responsibilities. Tell Him now in what areas you need Him.
His desire is to cleanse you and make you whole. He loves you.
Allow Him to do this work in you.
